I can't see any lady conscripts in this photograph

He had three small daughters, which saved him from conscription, and his attempt to volunteer was turned down in 1914 because he was short-sighted. But in 1916, as he walked home to south London from his office, a woman gave him a white feather (an emblem of cowardice). He enlisted the next day. By that time, they cared nothing for short sight. They just wanted a body to stop a shell, which Rifleman James Cutmore duly did in February 1918, dying of his wounds on March 28.
Order of the White Feather: My 'Coward' Grandfather
My mother was nine, and never got over it. In her last years, in the 1980s, her once fine brain so crippled by dementia that she could not remember the names of her children, she could still remember his dreadful, useless death. She could still talk of his last leave, when he was so shell shocked he could hardly speak and my grandmother ironed his uniform every day in the vain hope of killing the lice. She treasured his letters from the front, as well as information about his brothers who also died.She blamed the politicians.
She blamed the generation that sent him to war. She was with Kipling: "If any question why we died, / Tell them, because our fathers lied." She was with Sassoon: "If I were fierce, and bald, and short of breath / I'd live with scarlet majors at the Base, / And speed glum heroes up the line to death ... And when the war is done and youth stone dead / I'd toddle safely home and die - in bed."
But most of all, she blamed that unknown woman who gave him a white feather, and the thousands of brittle, self-righteous women all over the country who had done the same. And there were thousands of them, as Will Ellsworth-Jones makes clear in his fascinating account of a group of conscientious objectors, We Will Not Fight. After the war, Virginia Woolf suggested there were only 50 or 60 white feathers handed out, but this was nonsense - as Ellsworth-Jones's diligent research shows.
Some of his stories still have the power to make the reader angry. A 15 year old boy lied about his age to get into the army in 1914. He was in the retreat from Mons, the Battle of the Marne and the first Battle of Ypres, before he caught a fever and was sent home. Walking across Putney Bridge, four girls gave him white feathers. "I explained to them that I had been in the army and been discharged, and I was still only 16. Several people had collected around the girls and there was giggling, and I felt most uncomfortable and ... very humiliated." He walked straight into the nearest recruiting office and rejoined the army.
TOMMY by Rudyard Kipling
I WENT into a public 'ouse to get a pint o' beer,
The publican 'e up an' sez, " We serve no red-coats here."
The girls be'ind the bar they laughed an' giggled fit to die,
I outs into the street again an' to myself sez I:
O it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' " Tommy, go away " ;
But it's " Thank you, Mister Atkins," when the band begins to play
The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play,
O it's " Thank you, Mister Atkins," when the band begins to play.
I went into a theatre as sober as could be,
They gave a drunk civilian room, but 'adn't none for me;
They sent me to the gallery or round the music-'alls,
But when it comes to fightin', Lord! they'll shove me in the stalls!
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' " Tommy, wait outside ";
But it's " Special train for Atkins " when the trooper's on the tide
The troopship's on the tide, my boys, the troopship's on the tide,
O it's " Special train for Atkins " when the trooper's on the tide.
Yes, makin' mock o' uniforms that guard you while you sleep
Is cheaper than them uniforms, an' they're starvation cheap.
An' hustlin' drunken soldiers when they're goin' large a bit
Is five times better business than paradin' in full kit.
Then it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an` Tommy, 'ow's yer soul? "
But it's " Thin red line of 'eroes " when the drums begin to roll
The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll,
O it's " Thin red line of 'eroes, " when the drums begin to roll.
We aren't no thin red 'eroes, nor we aren't no blackguards too,
But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;
An' if sometimes our conduck isn't all your fancy paints,
Why, single men in barricks don't grow into plaster saints;
While it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an` Tommy, fall be'ind,"
But it's " Please to walk in front, sir," when there's trouble in the wind
There's trouble in the wind, my boys, there's trouble in the wind,
O it's " Please to walk in front, sir," when there's trouble in the wind.
You talk o' better food for us, an' schools, an' fires, an' all:
We'll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational.
Don't mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face
The Widow's Uniform is not the soldier-man's disgrace.
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an` Chuck him out, the brute! "
But it's " Saviour of 'is country " when the guns begin to shoot;
An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please;
An 'Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool - you bet that Tommy sees!
Men sometimes feel that they are cast aside by society when they have carried out their duty, and when they seek equality, they are ignored even in the 21st Century, just like in the 19th Century. We don’t seem to have advanced a lot in terms of equality. Very Sad!!
Here we have an example of how a lot of decent men in India are concerned that they are being treated as second class citizens:
Men's Rights Movement India
Men's Rights Movement is not a movement begging any privilege for men, it stands for gender equality, for ending discrimination against men with gender neutral laws, for true equality, and for honour and dignity of men.
Since the first day of human civilisation, Men are sacrificing their blood to protect women, children and society. It is Men who are doing back breaking labour to get food for women and children. Against any threat to society and people, it is men who are sacrificing their life on frontiers. It is the Men who are paying most taxes to the state, so that society may function ... But what is society giving to Men for such sacrifices?
Men are committing suicides at much higher rates. False allegations are leveled against men by women. Men do not have any rights in marital laws. Fruits of Men's labour is being usurped through maintenance laws. Men have no rights for his children. Feminised education causes high percentage of male student dropouts. Workplace is being made dangerous through sexual harassment laws. Higher taxation on men. Gender biased sexual assault laws. Reservation against men … Why?
This community is about Men. Rights & Honour of Men. Struggle against slavery imposed on Men, Discrimination against Men, Violence against Men, Propaganda against Men …
It is about dignity of Men.

Discrimination Against Men in India
Men pay more taxes than women at the same income level. Tax provisions are not gender neutral.
Men are provided no protection against sexual harassment at workplace and against rape and seduction.
Men do not have the choice of vocation. He is expected to subordinate his preferences to the needs of others in the family. That is because he is always the provider to others at the cost of his own personality. He has to just slog. He lives and dies for others. He is forced to don the mantle of the breadwinner for the whole family (including the extended family upon marriage), or else face a social death.
Men are not allowed the luxury of being the master of their own destiny.
Men are not accepted by the society the way they are – just normal human beings. He is reduced to the role of a robot – the eternal protector and provider with no desires of his own!
Men are not provided with a free and un-choked communication channel – a channel that listens to them without invalidating their feelings or ignoring or trivialising their problems.
No schemes are being furthered either by the Government, or eminent social celebrities, for boys, the way they are happening for girls. This has led to more boys dropping out of school, resulting in increase of juvenile delinquency. Shunned by the society, such boys grow up with gross inadequacy and ultimately turn criminals.
There is no concept of MEN’S RIGHTS, only RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES enshrined for them!
2007: 57593 married men committed suicide vis-à-vis 30064 married women, in India.
If we look back, in the last 62 years of independent India, not a single rupee has ever been allocated for men’s welfare from the Union Budget.
Not a single constitutional or quasi-constitutional body has ever been formed to identify redress problems peculiar to men.
There's not a National Commission for Men nor Men’s Welfare Ministry.
The numerous Anti-male and gender biased laws which are not gender-neutral.
Anti-male slant and negative stereotyping indulged in by media, television and films against men.
Negligence of health issues of men, like prostate cancer, short life expectancy, high suicide rates, cardiac problems, diabetes, etc
Not a Single Attempt has ever been made to Recognise that Men Too Have Problems.
Not a Single scheme ever been envisaged for Men’s Welfare
On the other hand men are always discriminated against in the guise of women empowerment.
Lack of government urge on the private sector to come up with Health Products specifically targeted to diseases affecting men in large numbers.
The World Economic Forum does not recognise men as human beings, because it doesn't conduct a study and publish Gender Index of Men, similar to that of women.
European Union's First Men's Health Report Reveals Dismal Status of Male Deaths
Article from National Coalition For Men
MHF listed the key findings from the Report’s press release:
Although men are living longer than ever before, the current decline in births means that there will be a huge reduction of men of working age across the EU-27 in the coming decades.
Over 50% of premature deaths amongst men are avoidable.
Men are less likely than women to engage in routine or preventative health checks.
Even though there have been big reductions in cardiovascular morbidity and death amongst men, Cardio-Vascular disease is still one of the biggest risks to health and the principle cause of death in the older population.
Among men, prostate cancer has become the most diagnosed cancer in Europe.
Testicular cancer, despite effective treatment, still remains the first cause of cancer death among young males (20-35 years).
Men’s depression and other mental health problems are under detected and under treated in all European countries. This is partly due to men being less likely to seek help.
“The European Men’s Health Forum is warning that unless a fundamental change is made in the whole approach taken to men’s health, the EU will suffer both socially and economically.”
The Report shows twice as many men of working age (16-64) die than women, with some 630,000 male and 300,000 female deaths across the EU-27 countries in this age group.
